The Lost Art Of Letter Writing

When is the last time you wrote someone a letter? Not an e-mail or text message, a real, handwritten with paper and pen, mailed in a stamped envelope letter?

There was a time when writing letters was our only means of communication. Now, technology enables us to pick up our cell phone, send an e-mail or a fax, or send text messages, and be immediately connected with anyone just about anywhere in the world, Don't you just LOVE technology?

Recently, I received a card in the mail from a friend of mine that took me by surprise. WOW, I thought....that was so sweet! It was nice to go to the mailbox and get something other than BILLS! lol

Well, I was thinking.....(I know that's a dangerous thing! lol) wouldn't it be nice to have a Pen-Pal? Maybe there is someone out there who would like to receive letters/cards/notes in the mail too!

So, are there any takers? Would any of you be interested in having a Pen-Pal? If so, please send me an e-mail with your names and address....it's that easy!

I hope to hear from you!

  1. Dear Laura,
I wrote a letter to a friend as late as July this year. Did I hear back from her - no! I also wrote personal notes and letters within the Christmas cards that I send out. So I still write people.
Hey - so what else is missing from emails? Dear ? ... and Sincerely or Love you, ? That's what I think is missing too - just those little bits of manners... :)
    Love you,
    Bevy

  2. I was sent your link today :) I adore writing letters! Some of my closest friends I have met while online through my blog and have become letter writing friends. I am a Christian stay-at-home mom - homeschooling my two girls (ages 7 and 5) and a newborn baby boy. I love all things old fashioned, and we are working hard at purchasing some land so we can start our homestead. You can check out my blog "A Beautiful Life" (http://emsbingy.blogspot.com) if you'd like to get to know me and see if you'd like to write. You can email me at: kindredspiritsreadinggroup@yahoo.com

Hope to hear from you! :)

  3. Oh, Laura! We are a BIG letter-writing family!
My best friend and I write several letters a month to each other and my kids all have lots of pen-pals!
We delight in creating pretty borders and adorning our letters with stickers and fun!
I would LOVE to be your pen-pal!

  4. I don't write a lot of letters anymore but I do mail cards often and I always do personal thank you notes. I am in a program right now called Snail Mail.

  5. I love, love, love to write letters and so so almost once a day. I rarely get a reply, which would be very gratifying, but I still write. And it is always a special treat when someone does actually write back. My children love to write, too. They all enjoy choosing and making note cards and stationary and all those that can write letters have their own address labels to make it extra fun. We set up a writing desk in a corner of the office that we keep stocked with supplies for letter writing. I hope that it is something my family will continue with, even though it has definitely lost its fashionable edge. Our whole family reads their mail aloud at the dinner table when we get a note from someone. My husband said this reminds him of the Jane Austen books because getting mail was a social event that everyone looked forward to.

    Hugs,

    Kat

  6. I think letters are making a comeback. Many people are realizing how much their life is enriched with sending and receiving letters. I love to write letters and have 8 pen pals who I correspond with. I'm also starting a magazine on letter writing called 'Letters & Journals'. The website is up, but the magazine is still about 9-12 months from its first edition.
So glad to see more share in this wonderful pastime.

  7. I do not write letters. It is enough of an effort for me to sign my name on a birthday card. Thank you for sharing Laura. Blessings.
