Men Folk and Breakfast

This morning the men are outside cleaning up the yard, mowing, winterizing the camper, laying mulch and splitting more wood for the winter (a NEVER ending job). While they're outside working, I'm making them a nice, hot breakfast of bacon, eggs and sweet Hawaiian crescent rolls.

What are you having for breakfast?

What A Gorgeous Day

It was going to be a chilly but gorgeous day so we got up early to get some things done. We power washed the front porch, cleaned out the vegetable beds, mowed grass, fixed the fence, pulled up trees that self seeded in the yard, hung out laundry and more. It felt so good to be out in the sunshine and work in the yard.

How did you spend your Saturday?

Unwanted Visitor

In the past four years since we have been here, we have had a bunch of cats born on our porch, eight (8) to be exact, plus the two that were already going back between our house and our neighbor's.  As soon as we were able to, we had all the cats spayed and neutered.  They have since become members of our family but yet still continue to live on the porch due to our lease.

Living in the country, especially right below the Shenandoah National Park, you will have many different wild animals around.  The other night while I was running an on-line JAMBERRY facebook party, I heard the glass pan moving outside the door.  Guess who was on our front porch?  When I opened the door, our little friend turned around and grabbed one more handful of cat food.  This is not the first time they have been here and by no means will it be the last.  That still doesn't make it easier to not be started when you see them.  And YES, I think they are ADORABLE!  :D
Today was a GORGEOUS DAY. Beautiful temps with a slight breeze so I turned the A/C off and opened all the windows and doors.  AAAHHH!!! Lots of laundry was done and hung outside to sway and dry in the sunshine and the gentle breeze.  Even Ubers seemed to enjoy the pretty day out on the window sill.

While having my coffee, I heard a noise on the porch.  Guess who? Another raccoon. I have had a confrontation once before with a raccoon in the middle of the day and it was not a good experience as he killed one of our chickens.  I found out shortly after that, when nothing seemed to deter him and he just stood there staring at me, then growled, that it was rabid.  I tried to get this one to leave, but like the other one, he just stood there looking at me. I tried shooting it with the pellet gun but he still didn't move.  I started screaming and yelling and banging things around and he finally just sauntered off the porch through the open window and jumped to the ground.  The look I got before he left was, "Don't you worry......I'LL BE BACK!" And he was!
Silly woman, you can tell me to leave, but I'm still going to come back. Again....and again.....and again!

Keeping Busy

It is a GORGEOUS day here on the farm.  Them temperature is in the high 70's - low 80's but the humidity is gone.  PRAISE THE LORD!!! Some days it has been absolutely horrible, like a wet blanket covering your entire body, making it difficult to breathe.  We are very happy for the reprieve and I am taking advantage of it to the fullest.

I have the doors and windows open and have been hanging all the laundry out to dry.  I love being outdoors so any chance I get, even it it's just to do laundry, I take it.
I have also been busy woodworking and sign painting to get caught up on my orders and also some benefit auction items.  These are just a few of the things I have been making.....

I NEED SOME HELP!!

I NEED SOME HELP!!  I have been so busy lately that I have let many things go.  Organization has never been one of my strong suits so when things get hectic it is very easy to become OvErWhElMeD!!!  I wanted to come up with a plan of attack that wouldn't last for just one day.  I searched the internet and asked friends what they do to keep their homes running smoothly and the answer they gave was almost always the same.......THE FLY LADY!  So of course, I had to check her out and I have to say, I LOVE HER!

I have subscribed to her videos on YouTube and also for her daily e-mails, which are geared towards whatever level you are on.  I am a newbie to the "organized world of cleaning schedules" so I am on the "Baby Step" level.  I am now known as a FlyBaby and my first task as a FlyBaby is to clean my sink and make it SHINE!!! (hmm....doesn't sound too difficult for my first day!) I also love that she has a MONTHLY HABIT and for August it is laundry.

I'm trying to get caught up so My Skippy Man has clean uniforms for work, sooooo.......
I'm spending the day with this bad boy.....and a couple of pots of coffee!

I am PRAYING I can stick to her schedule and get our home running efficiently again.  I would like to spend my evenings with my family instead of scrubbing floors or picking lint out of the dryer vents.

How about you?  Do you manage your home with a cleaning/chore schedule or do you fly by the seat of your pants like I have?  If you decide to join the FlyLady movement, drop me a line and let me know.  Perhaps we can keep in touch and be an encouragement to each other!  :D

Our Troublesome Visitor

For the past month - month and a half, we have been having a troublesome visitor who does not seem want to go away, no matter what we try.  This week he has broken into our coop and killed one of our ladies and then came back that same afternoon to get another.  My sister gave us one of her hens over the weekend and she has disappeared.  I think I know where she has gone!   : > (

This bear is definitely beautiful, but it is time for this big guy to move on!

We have also had a raccoon that has attacked and killed two of our cats.
It has not been a good few weeks for animals around here!  :(

We found a little cute little visitor just hanging around on our porch this afternoon.
I sure hope it likes stink bugs!

ANOTHER Snow Day

Last night it snowed and we got over ten inches.....AGAIN!!   It seems crazy since just the day before yesterday it was in the 60's.  I absolutely LOVE the cold and snow but even I am done with winter this year!

COME ON, SPRING!!!

Once Kiddo and I had breakfast, I went out to take care of then hens.  After shoveling the coop out, I opened the door so the ladies could come out and play. As they gazed out upon the freshly fallen snow, I heard them laugh at me.......
then quickly turn around and run right back inside, where they then proceeded to stuff their faces!

Ungrateful little things!!!
