Sewing With Boog

Last week, Boog came over to spend the night with us and to make a special gift for her mom.We saw a craft video awhile back for a teacup pincushion that she really wanted to make.  While we were out hitting some yard sales one weekend, she found, and purchased with her own money, the perfect teacup.  She was so EXCITED!

When she came over, she brought a piece of fabric she thought would be PERFECT and that her mom would love.  My sister would have loved it even if she made it out of a plastic bag!

Making the pincushion was easy.  All we did was cut out a big circle of fabric, stuffed the center really good with some polyfill, and tied it with an elastic pony-tail holder.  Then we made sure it wasn't too big and it fit down nicely into the teacup.  After that, we hot glued around the cup, set the stuffing down in, and gave it a gently push to adhere it to the cup.  Then we took some cute little straight pins and stuck them in the cushion.  You can get as simple or as fancy as you want with the fabric and the pins.  Maybe even add a little rick-rack or something around the rim.....the possibilities are ENDLESS!

After we finished the pincushion, Boog wanted to make something else for mom, so she decided on a small change purse in the same fabric.  Boog thought for a moment, and then just sat down and started sewing.  No pattern, just her imagination.  It is her dream to one day be a fashion designer.  I think she is well on her way!

So, what do you think?  Didn't she do a great job?

We had a fun time "Gettin' Crafty" together.  I hope we get to do it again real soon!

  2. I really like the teacup pincushion idea and might make my own. It's great that she made that little purse with no pattern.
