Our Newest Addition
I would like you to meet the newest addition to our farm.....Freckles. She is a New Hampshire Red that we got from wonderful friends of ours. Her 30 or so sisters thought that the "freckles" on her tail were bugs and kept pecking at them and pulling out her tail feathers. I am so glad that we were able to take her home with us.
She is such a pretty young lady and has such a sweet disposition. Make sure you come back the end of next week to see what other additions we are expecting!

How To Tell If Your Eggs Are Still Good
If your eggs have passed their "use by" date, and you're not sure if they are still good? Well, here is a quick and easy trick you can use to find out.....
1. Fill a bowl with enough cold tap water to cover the egg(s). I have a very large bowl, so I am able to check more than one egg at a time.
2. Place egg in water. As you can see in the picture below, I had a little helper! lol
3. If the egg sinks to the bottom, there is not much air inside the shell, and your egg is fresh.
4. If the stands on its point and bobs on the bottom, the air pocket is much larger. This means that the egg is not quite as fresh, but it is still good, but should be used soon.
5. If the egg floats to the top, it needs to be discarded.
6. Repeat with the rest of your eggs
This trick works because egg shells are porous, and overtime, the liquid in the egg evaporates and is replaced by outside air. This is another reason why you should never keep your hens in the same building along with gas cans and the like. I know I don't want to eat eggs that taste like gasoline or other chemicals.
FYI: Did you know that if you want to make egg salad or deviled eggs, using eggs which are a week or so old are easier to peel than very fresh eggs? I can personally vouch for that! lol

Lost In My Own Little World
I just can't get enough of a site called "Tipnut!" It has a TON of craft, sewing, and DIY projects, as well as ideas and tutorials on food, gardening and plants, health & beauty, and household tips....all in one spot. AWESOOOOOME!
If I don't watch myself, I could get lost in my own little world on there for HOURS! As you can see, I take my coffee with a splash of tipnut!
If you get a chance, hop on over.....I know you'll love it there too!

Shave And A Haircut - Being Frugal
I have been cutting Kiddo's hair for years. It grows so fast that it was costing me a fortune so I decided to cut it myself. When it gets buzzed, My Skippy Man does it, but when it gets scissor cut, I take care of that. Yesterday, he needed both a cut and a shave, as you can tell by the first pic. I sometimes joke with him and call him Wolfman Jack. He says, "Who?" lol
I love to cut his hair.....it's FREE! And that is one word this Frugal Female LOVES!

I Found My Grandmother In A Box
We are participating in a multi-family yard sale tomorrow (Saturday & Sunday), so for the past few days, I have been going through boxes, our closets, and the shed, trying to get rid of and simplify even more than we already did when we moved. This is something I really should have done before now.
As I was going through one of the boxes, I was delighted to find some of the afghans our grandmother Foxy had made.It was nice to take time and take each one out and just remember those special times with her and my family, especially around the holidays. Man, could she cook! lol
I LOVE these afghans, but it's time to share these treasures with my sisters. Every time we snuggle up in one of these, it's like getting a big ((((HUG)))) from Foxy!
